KPI OceanConnect, a prominent global provider of marine energy solutions, has successfully delivered B24 biofuel to WAN HAI Lines’ container vessel, WAN HAI 510, on October 7 in Singapore, with SK Energy International serving as the physical supplier. This delivery, facilitated by KPI OceanConnect, marks WAN HAI Lines' inaugural venture into biofuel.

The ISCC-certified biofuel is expected to assist WAN HAI Lines in achieving its sustainability goals by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 20% compared to conventional fuel oil. This milestone represents the initial step for WAN HAI Lines in implementing a customized alternative fuels strategy developed in collaboration with KPI OceanConnect. The latter has successfully conducted biofuel deliveries at over 100 ports globally, working closely with customers and bunker suppliers to aggregate demand and supply biofuel that meets specific quality standards.

The demand for biofuel bunkering is projected to more than double by 2025, driven by the emissions reduction pathways that biofuels offer, which help companies comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations in the near future. Jesper Sørensen, Head of Alternative Fuels and Carbon Markets at KPI OceanConnect, expressed pride in facilitating WAN HAI Lines' first biofuel delivery, highlighting the company’s extensive experience in biofuel bunkering and its global presence. Sørensen emphasized the importance of partnerships in achieving net-zero targets, stating that collaboration brings essential expertise and confidence in decision-making. He noted, “At KPI OceanConnect, we are dedicated to actively aggregating demand and connecting bunker suppliers with buyers to develop the global low-carbon fuel infrastructure necessary to meet growing demand.”

WAN HAI Lines echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in its first biofuel supply in partnership with KPI OceanConnect at the Singapore port. The company highlighted that adopting biofuels is a critical element of its strategy to accelerate the transition to decarbonization and meet its emission reduction targets. WAN HAI Lines extended gratitude to KPI OceanConnect for their professionalism in meeting their needs and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with partners and stakeholders to drive continuous progress on its sustainability journey.

This partnership underscores the shift toward sustainable marine fuels, demonstrating both companies' dedication to reducing the environmental impact of shipping and promoting greener alternatives in the industry. As the maritime sector navigates the challenges of decarbonization, the collaboration between KPI OceanConnect and WAN HAI Lines serves as a model for integrating biofuels into the shipping industry’s fuel mix.

KPI OceanConnect's vision is to lead the green transition as the preferred and most reliable partner in marine fuels, providing value through innovative solutions. The company's mission is to generate value for stakeholders by offering a seamless and innovative fueling experience.
