Syensqo, a global frontrunner in advanced materials and chemical innovation, has achieved a significant sustainability milestone with its Heanor facility in the United Kingdom. The site has officially received ISCC-PLUS certification, a prestigious third-party accreditation that recognizes the site’s compliance with the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC-PLUS) standard for the production of sustainable composite materials under its ReGen portfolio.
The ISCC-PLUS certification is based on a strict mass balance chain of custody system. This methodology ensures that renewable or recycled raw materials used in production are accurately tracked and attributed to specific end-products, facilitating the gradual transition from fossil-based to more sustainable resources within the value chain. The accreditation of the Heanor site is part of a broader initiative by Syensqo, with nine other company locations already certified since 2023. This continued expansion underlines Syensqo’s dedication to embedding sustainable practices at every level of its global operations.
The certification comes ahead of the formal rollout of Syensqo’s ReGen portfolio roadmap, scheduled for launch in March 2025. This portfolio represents a strategic leap forward, offering customers composite material solutions derived from renewable, recycled, or mass-balanced feedstocks. These materials are designed to match the high-performance standards of conventional fossil-based composites, without requiring any changes to customers' existing manufacturing setups.
The ReGen line is central to Syensqo’s circularity strategy, which focuses on reducing reliance on virgin fossil inputs and minimizing the overall carbon footprint of its products. By doing so, the company aligns with global sustainability goals and meets growing customer demand for environmentally responsible solutions that do not compromise on quality or efficiency.
“This accreditation is a testament to our steadfast commitment to fostering circularity across our product offerings,” said Gabriel Molina, Sustainable Development Director for Composite Materials at Syensqo. “Our ReGen products are engineered to serve as high-performance, drop-in alternatives to their all-fossil counterparts. They deliver the same level of reliability while supporting our customers’ sustainability objectives and easing the shift toward greener manufacturing practices.”
Through the ISCC-PLUS certification of its Heanor site, Syensqo strengthens its position as a leader in sustainable material innovation. The achievement not only highlights the company’s proactive approach to responsible production but also paves the way for greater industry adoption of eco-friendly composite materials.
