In November 2024, the prices of Vitamin B4, also known as Adenine, experienced a significant increase across global markets, continuing the upward trend seen in previous months. The supply of Vitamin B4 remains constrained, with limited stock across key regions, driving suppliers to raise their prices in response to growing demand.
In China, the increase in Vitamin B4 prices in November can be attributed to multiple factors. First, the country's factory activity surged, reaching its fastest growth in five months, fueled by a substantial rise in new orders, including from international markets. This demand boost helped elevate production levels and sparked optimism among manufacturers, leading to higher prices for Vitamin B4. Notably, export orders, particularly those from abroad, saw their first increase in four months, further intensifying demand. Alongside this, rising raw material costs pushed up production expenses, prompting manufacturers to pass these costs onto consumers, resulting in higher prices. Additionally, the depreciation of the Chinese yuan against the U.S. dollar made Chinese exports more attractive to foreign buyers, further driving up international demand and putting additional upward pressure on Vitamin B4 prices.
In Germany, a major importer of Vitamin B4, rising transportation costs are putting significant pressure on prices. After a brief decline in mid-October, Asia-Europe freight rates surged by 30% in early November, primarily due to General Rate Increases (GRIs) implemented by shipping carriers. These rates are expected to continue climbing in December, driven by additional GRIs linked to the early demand surge ahead of the Lunar New Year. As transportation costs rise, they are being passed down the supply chain, leading to higher Vitamin B4 prices in Germany, as importers shift the burden of increased shipping
Similarly, the United States Vitamin B4 market has seen price hikes, influenced by both growing demand and the recent resolution of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) strike. The strike had caused significant congestion and delays at critical East and Gulf Coast ports, disrupting Vitamin B4 imports from Asia. While port operations have now resumed, importers are scrambling to replenish inventories that had dwindled during the strike, leading to a rise in prices for Vitamin B4.
According to analysts at ChemAnalyst, Vitamin B4 prices are expected to experience a slight decline toward the year-end as market participants look to clear out older inventories. However, there is a possibility that Vitamin B4 prices would rise at the start of the new year. This potential increase is driven by factors such as a resurgence in demand from the nutraceutical sector, which tends to pick up after the holiday season, as well as potential supply constraints that could tighten the market.
