The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG Group) has announced on October 17 that it plans to significantly expand its OPL Film production capacity. OPL Film is a high-performance optical polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) film used in polarizing plates for liquid crystal displays (LCDs) used in televisions. The expansion will take place at the Mitsubishi Chemical’s Mitsubishi Chemical’s Central Japan-Ogaki (Kanda) Plant in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

This newly improved facility will be capable of producing 27 million square meters of OPL Film per year. Upon completion of the expansion, the MCG Group's total production capacity for OPL Film™ is expected to reach an impressive 154 million square meters per year, solidifying its position as a leading manufacturer of this critical component in the LCD industry.

The upgraded facility is scheduled to commence operations in the second half of fiscal year 2027, coinciding with a surge in demand for OPL Film products. This demand surge is driven by a growing popularity of larger LCD screens in televisions and other electronic devices. The MCG Group's decision to expand its production capacity underlines its commitment to fulfil the increasing market requirements for high-quality OPL Film.

The new production facility will feature the largest single-line production capacity within the MCG Group. It will boast state-of-the-art technology, enabling it to produce OPL Film with superior quality and efficiency compared to traditional methods.

The expansion project aligns with the MCG Group's strategic focus on sustainable growth and innovation. By investing in advanced production facilities, the company aims to enhance its competitiveness and meet the evolving needs of its customers.
