Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) has announced its decision to expand the production capacity for flame-retardant compounds based on polyolefins and thermoplastic elastomers. These materials are primarily used for cable sheathing and are essential in various industrial applications. The expansion will take place at two of its subsidiaries—Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers (China) Co., Ltd. and MCPP France SAS. This strategic move is driven by the growing global demand for flame-retardant compounds, especially in sectors such as mobility, telecommunications, construction, and gas. As these industries continue to grow and evolve, the need for reliable, high-performance flame-retardant materials has become increasingly critical.

MCC’s flame-retardant compounds are known for their wide range of product grades, which are designed to meet different levels of flame resistance and heat tolerance. These compounds also offer high flexibility, thanks to the company’s proprietary formulation technologies. Their excellent processability in extrusion molding further enhances their value in manufacturing applications. As a result of these unique characteristics, MCC’s flame-retardant materials are widely used in automotive cables, solar power system cables, and sputter tubes. In recent years, demand has been particularly strong in China and Europe, where industries are rapidly expanding their infrastructure and energy systems, thereby driving the need for safer and more efficient cable solutions.

To meet this increasing global demand, MCC will install new production lines at its facilities in both China and France. This capacity expansion will not only enhance the company’s ability to supply flame-retardant compounds on a global scale but also strengthen its responsiveness to regional market needs. By doing so, MCC aims to ensure a more stable and reliable supply chain, reduce lead times, and support the growing requirements of its customers across various industries.

The expansion reflects MCC’s commitment to innovation, quality, and safety in material science. With the integration of advanced production capabilities, the company is positioning itself to better serve the evolving needs of its global clientele. This initiative underlines MCC’s strategic vision to reinforce its leadership in the field of performance polymers, especially as the demand for flame-retardant solutions continues to grow alongside the expansion of electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and smart infrastructure. Through these investments, MCC is not only meeting current market demands but also preparing for future technological advancements that will shape the next generation of industrial materials.

Mitsubishi Chemical Group Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, was established in October 2005 through the merger of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Mitsubishi Pharma Corporation. It is one of the key companies within the Mitsubishi Group.
