Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) has recently obtained the ISCC PLUS certification, a globally recognized standard for sustainable products. This certification ensures that recycled and biomass-based raw materials are appropriately managed throughout the entire supply chain, including during the manufacturing process. With this achievement, MCC is now authorized to handle specific products using the mass balance approach, enhancing transparency and traceability in the production of sustainable materials.
The ISCC PLUS certification has been newly granted to MCC’s Okayama Plant in Japan for several of its core products. These include Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH) under the product names GOHSENOL, GOHSENX, and Nichigo G-Polymer. The certification for these products will take effect in January 2025. By acquiring this certification, MCC affirms its commitment to sustainable practices and promises full compliance with the most recent regulations set by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system.
The ISCC PLUS certification plays a crucial role in validating the responsible use of alternative raw materials, such as recycled content and biomass, by providing a credible and verifiable method of tracking their flow through the supply chain. The mass balance method, which MCC will utilize for these products, allows for the mixing of certified and non-certified materials, as long as the certified material input and output remain balanced and accounted for. This method encourages broader adoption of sustainable practices within existing industrial systems.
MCC’s dedication to achieving ISCC PLUS certification reflects its broader environmental strategy and its role in advancing a more sustainable future. By offering certified sustainable products, the company contributes to the transition towards a circular economy, reduces its environmental footprint, and supports customers seeking eco-friendly alternatives in their own production processes.
Moving forward, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation will continue to expand its portfolio of certified sustainable products, reinforcing its leadership in the chemical industry and its commitment to environmental responsibility. Through initiatives like this, MCC not only complies with international standards but also actively supports the integration of sustainability into mainstream production and consumption patterns.
In summary, the ISCC PLUS certification represents a significant milestone for MCC, enabling it to offer responsibly sourced, sustainable materials while strengthening its contribution to a more sustainable society.
