Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions has achieved a major milestone by recycling over 1 billion pounds of used cooking oil into biodiesel fuel, highlighting its commitment to sustainability in the food service industry. Since 2002, Filta has implemented its innovative service model in tens of thousands of commercial kitchens across North America. The company’s services include micro-filtering cooking oil, deep cleaning fryers, and providing bin-free waste oil collection. All the collected waste oil is recycled into biodiesel fuel, reducing carbon emissions and promoting a circular economy.

For every gallon of biodiesel produced, 16 pounds of carbon dioxide are prevented from entering the atmosphere, significantly contributing to environmental conservation. Over two decades of operations, Filta’s efforts have offset carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to planting 135 million trees. The company's services have helped reduce the environmental impact of the food service industry on multiple fronts.

Filta's wide-ranging efforts have led to substantial environmental benefits across various areas. The company has preserved 1.9 million acres of land and saved over 1.3 million gallons of water. It has also contributed to a reduction of more than 2.1 million pounds of pesticides and 80 million pounds of fertilizer. Additionally, Filta's operations have saved 7.6 million gallons of diesel, 2.4 million gallons of gasoline, and 12.6 million kWh of electricity. Furthermore, the company has conserved 111 million cubic feet of natural gas, underscoring its significant role in reducing environmental impact.

The environmental benefits extend beyond carbon offsets. Filta has significantly reduced packaging and transportation waste, cutting over 34 million pounds of plastic and 22 million pounds of cardboard. By reusing cooking oil and converting it into biodiesel, the company has saved nearly 4 million pounds of greenhouse gases and prevented the use of 57 million pounds of packaging materials.

Replacing traditional diesel with biodiesel has also led to reductions in harmful pollutants. Filta’s recycling efforts have reduced particulate matter by 666,666 pounds, hydrocarbons by 746,666 pounds, carbon monoxide by over 7.4 million pounds, sulfur dioxide by 586,666 pounds, and carbon dioxide by over 2.7 billion pounds. These reductions are a testament to the environmental impact Filta has made through its operations.

Filta’s services are widely utilized across various industries, including restaurants, hospitals, hotels, universities, entertainment venues, and professional sports stadiums. The company has refined its processes over the years to ensure that cooking oil recycling is both safe and efficient in all these settings.

Looking forward, Filta remains committed to expanding its reach and further reducing carbon footprints within the food service industry. Every fryer serviced presents an opportunity to drive sustainability and make a positive impact on the environment. As the company grows, the cumulative effect of its efforts will continue to support a more sustainable future.
