AmmPower Corp., a frontrunner in innovative ammonia production technologies, has announced a strategic collaboration with FuelCell Energy, Inc. to explore pilot projects focused on distributed ammonia production. This partnership will facilitate the integration of AmmPower’s modular ammonia production units with FuelCell Energy’s highly efficient solid oxide electrolyzer systems. The collaboration aims to enhance clean ammonia production efficiencies and unlock new commercial opportunities.

Ammonia is vital for producing fertilizer, which plays a crucial role in agriculture and global food security. AmmPower’s proprietary Independent Ammonia Making Machine (IAMM™) is engineered to generate up to four metric tons of carbon-free ammonia daily using renewable electricity. By integrating this technology with FuelCell Energy’s solid oxide electrolyzer, which operates at high efficiency and utilizes excess heat from the ammonia production process, the partnership aims to achieve over a 25% reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional alkaline or PEM-based processes.

FuelCell Energy’s Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cell boasts nearly 90% electrical efficiency for hydrogen production without excess heat, achieving 100% efficiency when incorporating excess heat. The hydrogen generated through this electrolysis process can be stored long-term and transported, making it possible to harness energy from wind, solar, and nuclear sources on demand.

Dr. Zhenyu Zhang, Chief Technologist of AmmPower, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Partnering with FuelCell Energy allows AmmPower to utilize state-of-the-art electrolyzer technology that significantly enhances the efficiency of our IAMM Complete units. We are excited about the potential of this integration in optimizing green ammonia production.”

FuelCell Energy’s President and CEO, Jason Few, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its alignment with global clean energy objectives. He stated, “Our platforms respond to the clean energy goals of organizations and governments worldwide. We are particularly pleased to apply our technology to the important work of ammonia production to support global food security.”

AmmPower CEO Dr. Gary Benninger also noted the broader implications of the partnership, saying, “This collaboration is about more than just technological innovation; it’s about providing practical solutions that enhance productivity and sustainability in vital industries. Our focus is on applying these advanced technologies to address the critical needs of agriculture and industrial sectors where ammonia plays a key role.”

Together, AmmPower and FuelCell Energy are committed to advancing ammonia production technologies that support sustainable agricultural practices and industrial applications, aiming to reduce environmental impacts while improving operational efficiencies.

AmmPower is a clean energy company dedicated to producing green hydrogen feedstock for renewable fuels and their derivatives. Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, the company operates a research and manufacturing facility in Southeast Michigan. AmmPower is engaged in all aspects of green hydrogen feedstock and fuel production, including the creation of green fertilizers, carbon-free shipping fuel, and the processing or transportation of green hydrogen derivatives.
