Petrovietnam, Vietnam’s state-run oil, gas, and energy giant, is strengthening its clean energy ambitions through a strategic collaboration with JERA Asia, a subsidiary of Japanese energy leader JERA. The partnership aims to accelerate the development of renewable and low-carbon energy projects in Vietnam, focusing on offshore wind, liquefied natural gas (LNG), ammonia, hydrogen, and carbon-reduction technologies.
The two sides recently met to discuss expanding their cooperation to ensure both long-term energy security and environmental sustainability in Vietnam and the broader region. According to updates shared on Petrovietnam’s official social media, the discussions centered on enhancing strategic ties in clean energy innovation and leveraging shared expertise to support Vietnam’s energy transition goals.
Le Manh Cuong, Deputy CEO of Petrovietnam, highlighted the country’s significant potential in renewable energy. He emphasized that this collaboration with JERA is critical to the company’s green growth strategy, which extends beyond its traditional oil and gas operations. Cuong stressed that international cooperation is essential for advancing energy solutions that align with Vietnam’s climate commitments and development goals.
JERA, for its part, reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Vietnam’s decarbonization efforts. The company drew on its global experience in renewable energy, low-carbon fuel technologies, and decarbonization strategies to underline the value it brings to the partnership. JERA also emphasized the importance of combining forces to promote cleaner, more sustainable energy systems in Asia.
This latest collaboration builds on Petrovietnam’s broader efforts to secure diverse energy sources. In 2025, its subsidiary PV Gas signed an agreement with Malaysian state-owned firm Petronas to supply LNG to Vietnam. PV Gas has also entered into separate agreements with U.S.-based Excelerate Energy and ConocoPhillips to explore LNG procurement opportunities from the United States.
Meanwhile, JERA has been expanding its presence in the global low-carbon energy space. It recently partnered with U.S. ammonia producer CF Industries and Japanese conglomerate Mitsui & Co. on a $4 billion low-carbon ammonia project in Louisiana. Additionally, JERA Global Markets, another subsidiary, signed an LNG supply agreement with ADNOC Gas of the United Arab Emirates, reinforcing its active role in securing diverse clean energy supplies.
This collaboration between Petrovietnam and JERA marks a significant step in Vietnam’s energy transition, combining regional potential with international expertise to build a more resilient and sustainable energy future.
