Mitsubishi Corporation is poised to embark on a groundbreaking initiative with a hefty investment of $690 million to establish the world's largest green hydrogen plant in the Netherlands. Collaborating with Dutch renewable energy powerhouse Eneco, Mitsubishi is forming Eneco Diamond Hydrogen, a joint venture that will oversee the construction and operation of this ambitious hydrogen production facility. Anticipated to commence construction in 2026, the plant is slated to commence hydrogen production in 2029, harnessing the power of Eneco's wind farms.

Eneco currently boasts an installed capacity of just under 7.4 gigawatts (GW). This substantial capacity will be harnessed to generate an impressive 80,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, a quantum leap compared to any previous hydrogen production endeavor. The envisioned scale of production aims to leverage economies of scale, with the overarching goal of driving down the cost of green hydrogen. Presently, the cost of producing hydrogen through water electrolysis using renewable sources is approximately three times higher than conventional methods reliant on fossil fuels.
