Oman’s state-owned ASYAD Group has attracted strong industry interest for its green hydrogen logistics feasibility study, with 27 consultancy firms, both local and international, submitting bids. The tender, aimed at assessing Oman’s readiness to support large-scale hydrogen projects, drew participation from 18 Omani companies and nine international firms by the tender document purchase deadline on February 9, 2025, as reported by Zawya. This strong response reflects the growing global interest in Oman’s ambitions to become a key player in the green hydrogen economy.

The feasibility study will evaluate critical aspects of Oman’s logistics infrastructure to ensure seamless execution of future hydrogen projects. Key areas of focus include assessing port readiness, inland transportation networks, and staging areas to support Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The study will also examine the shipment, import, and export logistics required for an efficient and competitive hydrogen supply chain.

A crucial component of the study involves identifying necessary investments across the supply chain and addressing gaps in the current infrastructure. The assessment will provide a comprehensive analysis of capacity requirements, cost-benefit evaluations, and operational models to enhance efficiency. Additionally, the study aims to develop strategies to ensure scalability and sustainability in Oman’s hydrogen logistics sector, strengthening the country’s ability to meet growing global demand.

Beyond infrastructure and logistics, ASYAD Group will also explore opportunities for localizing hydrogen-related components at ASYAD Drydock. This initiative aligns with Oman’s broader vision of fostering industrial growth and increasing domestic capabilities in clean energy production and supply chain management. By assessing the potential for local manufacturing and assembly, ASYAD Group seeks to enhance Oman’s role as a regional hub for hydrogen technology and infrastructure.

The timeline for the tender process includes several key milestones:

Pre-bid clarifications: February 3–18, 2025

Bid submission deadline: February 23, 2025

Technical bid opening: February 24, 2025

Priced bid opening: To be determined

The tender was officially issued on February 3, 2025, and the high level of interest from leading consultancy firms highlights the importance of Oman’s hydrogen initiatives on a global scale. With growing investments in hydrogen production and logistics, Oman is positioning itself as a major exporter of green hydrogen, leveraging its strategic location, abundant renewable energy resources, and commitment to sustainability.

By advancing this feasibility study, ASYAD Group aims to establish a robust and efficient logistics framework that will support the successful execution of hydrogen projects, attract further investment, and enhance Oman’s competitiveness in the international hydrogen market. The outcomes of this study will play a crucial role in shaping the future of green hydrogen logistics and infrastructure in Oman, setting the stage for long-term economic and environmental benefits.
