Saudi Arabia - Wood, a global leader in consulting and engineering services, has successfully secured a significant engineering services contract from Saudi Aramco for its Southern and Northern Areas gas increments project. This major initiative is set to play a crucial role in the Kingdom's strategy to enhance its natural gas production capabilities.

The project is expected to utilize approximately one million engineering hours, underscoring its scale and importance in meeting both national and international energy demands. Wood’s responsibilities will encompass providing project management consultancy (PMC) services, which include comprehensive Pre-FEED (Front End Engineering Design) and FEED engineering for various gas facilities across Eastern Saudi Arabia. These facilities will focus on large-scale onshore gas production and processing, which are vital for supporting the region's energy infrastructure.

In addition to the initial phases, Wood will also provide EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracting support for subsequent phases of the project. This holistic approach not only streamlines the project execution but also ensures that all aspects of the gas facilities are integrated effectively, maximizing operational efficiency and safety.

Craig Shanaghey, Wood’s Executive President of Projects, highlighted the importance of this project in the context of global energy transition. “Natural gas serves as a critical transitional fuel that can have an immediate and positive impact on reducing carbon emissions associated with energy production,” he stated. He further elaborated on the significance of this project, noting that it aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals, which aim to diversify the economy and enhance sustainable energy practices.

Shanaghey expressed pride in Wood’s long-standing partnership with Aramco, which spans over three decades. “We are thrilled to support this significant expansion project that will not only meet the growing energy demands but also contribute to improved efficiency in gas production,” he added. The Southern and Northern Areas gas increments will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Saudi Arabia can meet its domestic energy needs while also positioning itself as a key player in the global energy market.

Wood’s expertise in handling large-scale and complex engineering challenges will be instrumental in the successful delivery of this project. The company’s dedicated teams are well-equipped to address the unique challenges posed by such expansive initiatives, employing innovative solutions and leveraging their extensive experience in the energy sector.

As the world shifts towards cleaner energy sources, projects like this one are essential in demonstrating how traditional energy sources can evolve. By enhancing natural gas production, Saudi Arabia is taking significant steps toward achieving a balanced energy portfolio that includes both conventional and renewable sources, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future.
