Uniper has signed a nine-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a leading international industrial gas producer. The agreement, effective from 2025, begins with an annual delivery of 25 GWh, which will increase to 75 GWh from 2027 through the end of the contract in 2033. The green energy generated will facilitate the decarbonization of a significant industrial region in Germany, focusing on the production of green hydrogen.

Carsten Poppinga, CCO of Uniper, stated, “Climate change is pushing companies to lower their CO2 emissions. This contract highlights Uniper's capacity to fulfill customer demands and affirms our position as a trusted partner in the energy transition. Our flexible energy generation assets are essential for restructuring the energy sector while ensuring supply security. We are pleased that this PPA contributes to accelerating decarbonization efforts in a major German industrial area, marking another step toward Uniper’s goal of becoming a leading provider of green molecules and power products.”

Based in Düsseldorf, Uniper is an international energy company operating in over 40 countries. With approximately 7,000 employees, the company plays a crucial role in ensuring supply security across Europe, especially in its key markets of Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Uniper's diverse operations include power generation in Europe, global energy trading, and a comprehensive gas portfolio. The company sources gas—including liquefied natural gas (LNG)—and other energy supplies from international markets and manages gas storage facilities with a combined capacity exceeding 7 billion cubic meters.

Uniper is committed to achieving complete carbon neutrality by 2040, with a goal for over 80% of its installed power generation capacity to be zero-carbon by 2030. To reach these objectives, the company is modernizing its power plants and facilities and investing in flexible, dispatchable power generation units. As one of Europe’s largest hydropower operators, Uniper is also actively promoting the expansion of solar and wind energy, which are vital for a sustainable future. Additionally, the company is broadening its gas portfolio to include green gases like hydrogen and biomethane, with plans for a long-term transition to these cleaner alternatives. Uniper is a trusted partner for communities, municipal utilities, and industrial firms in developing and implementing innovative, low-carbon solutions for their decarbonization efforts. As a pioneer in hydrogen, Uniper is involved globally in the entire hydrogen value chain, working on projects to establish hydrogen as a key component of the energy supply.
