Trelleborg Acquires Aerospace Thermoplastics Specialist Magee Plastics

Trelleborg Group has strategically expanded its footprint in the sealing solutions market through the acquisition of US-based Magee Plastics, bolstering its Trelleborg Sealing Solutions business unit. Magee Plastics specializes in manufacturing and servicing high-performance thermoplastic and composite material solutions specifically for the aerospace industry.

Founded by Ted Magee 56 years ago and headquartered in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, Magee Plastics is renowned for its industry-leading design skills, quality, and performance in developing interior solutions that meet complex aerospace specifications. In 2023, the company's sales reached approximately SEK 230 million. This acquisition by Trelleborg Group will enhance its capabilities in high-performance materials and further solidify its presence in the aerospace sector, leveraging Magee Plastics' extensive experience and innovative solutions.  This acquisition will expand Trelleborg's capabilities in delivering advanced materials and services to the aerospace sector, enhancing its portfolio in high-performance sealing solutions and strengthening its position in this critical industry segment.

Jürgen Bosch, Business Area President of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, commented on the acquisition, highlighting its strategic significance for Trelleborg. He noted that the deal enhances the company's position in the aerospace industry by integrating advanced thermoforming and vacuum forming expertise. This acquisition expands Trelleborg’s portfolio of interior fittings for aerospace applications, which is expected to create valuable sales synergies. Additionally, it includes an FAA145-certified service workshop, which will bolster Trelleborg's presence in the aftermarket services sector and strengthen customer relationships. Bosch emphasized that these developments align with Trelleborg's growth and customer service objectives.

The aerospace industry is projected to see robust growth over the coming years, prompting Trelleborg to enhance its capabilities through strategic bolt-on acquisitions and investments in expanding existing operations. To address the rising demand, Trelleborg announced in May a significant investment in a cutting-edge facility in Morocco dedicated to producing sealing solutions for the aerospace sector. Scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2025, this new facility will bolster Trelleborg's production capacity and support its efforts to meet the evolving needs of the aerospace industry.
