TotalEnergies has signed a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited (GSPC) to supply 400,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year for a decade, starting in 2026. The agreement was formalized during a ceremony in New Delhi on the sidelines of the India Energy Week, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s LNG supply.

Under the terms of the deal, TotalEnergies will deliver six LNG cargoes annually from its global portfolio to terminals along India’s west coast. The imported LNG will be primarily used to meet the needs of GSPC’s industrial customers while also supplying Indian households, businesses, and fueling stations for vehicles running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), including auto-rickshaws. This initiative aligns with India’s broader energy transition strategy by expanding access to cleaner fuels.

"We are delighted to have been selected by GSPC to supply LNG to India," said Gregory Joffroy, Senior Vice President of LNG at TotalEnergies. "This agreement reinforces our leadership in the global LNG market and reflects our commitment to supporting India's energy transition and ensuring a stable supply of natural gas."

GSPC, a state-owned oil and gas company, sees this agreement as a critical step in securing long-term, competitively priced LNG to address India’s growing natural gas demand. "This deal strengthens GSPC’s ability to bridge the increasing demand-supply gap for natural gas in Gujarat and across India," said Milind Torawane, Managing Director at GSPC. "By partnering with TotalEnergies, one of the world’s leading LNG players, we are reinforcing our position as a key player in India's gas trading sector. The agreement also enhances our operations by leveraging the extensive transmission and distribution infrastructure of the GSPC Group."

Natural gas is expected to play a vital role in India’s energy transition, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional fuels in industrial applications, cooking, and transportation. Increased LNG imports will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality by curbing pollution from conventional energy sources.

With this agreement, TotalEnergies further strengthens its footprint in India’s energy landscape while contributing to the country’s transition toward a more sustainable and diversified energy mix. Meanwhile, GSPC continues to enhance its long-term LNG portfolio, ensuring energy security and reliability for its customers. The partnership between TotalEnergies and GSPC not only supports India’s growing demand for natural gas but also underscores the country’s commitment to adopting cleaner energy solutions for a more sustainable future.
