TotalEnergies, in collaboration with seven prominent companies, is at the forefront of establishing an international coalition focused on advancing the production and utilization of e-natural gas (e-NG). This synthetic natural gas, derived from renewable hydrogen and CO2, possesses the unique capability of being transported, liquefied, and distributed through existing infrastructure, rendering it an attractive option for end-users seeking to decarbonize their operations without significant infrastructure modifications.
The coalition, comprising TotalEnergies, Engie, Mitsubishi Corporation, Osaka Gas, Sempra Infrastructure, TES, Tokyo Gas, and Toho Gas, has set out to promote the widespread adoption of e-NG and facilitate the development of a global market for this innovative energy solution. Additionally, the coalition aims to advocate for supportive policies from policymakers and advocate for the harmonization of regulations and standards to ensure the sustainable development of e-NG. Moreover, fostering collaboration among stakeholders across the entire value chain and geographic spectrum is a key objective of the coalition.
TotalEnergies is actively engaged in the "Live Oak e-NG" initiative alongside Tree Energy Solutions (TES), aiming to produce an annual output of 100,000 to 200,000 tons of e-NG in the United States by 2030. Leveraging its participation in this initiative, along with its extensive expertise in renewable energy generation, large-scale project management, gas liquefaction, and green hydrogen project development, TotalEnergies is poised to provide invaluable insights to the coalition.
Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, reiterated the company's commitment to driving the development of e-NG, highlighting its potential to facilitate the decarbonization of challenging industrial activities while leveraging existing infrastructures. He emphasized the pivotal role of e-NG in accelerating the energy transition towards a net-zero carbon future.
The e-NG Coalition symbolizes a collaborative endeavor among forward-thinking companies, united in their conviction that electric Natural Gas (e-NG) can play a significant role in expediting the energy transition towards carbon neutrality. By championing the adoption of e-NG, establishing standardized global market practices, and fostering cooperation among stakeholders, the coalition aims to catalyze the advancement of this promising energy solution.
