TotalEnergies Nears $2.1 Billion Acquisition of Renewable Energy Developer VSB Group

French energy giant TotalEnergies is nearing a €2 billion ($2.1 billion) acquisition of renewable project developer VSB Group from private equity firm Partners Group, according to multiple news portals.

The deal, which could be announced soon, would significantly bolster TotalEnergies' renewable energy portfolio as it seeks to reach 100GW of renewable power capacity by 2030. The final agreement, however, might still face delays.

VSB Group is a European sustainability management giant that operates in France, Germany and Italy. It provides project management and environmental planning services for solar, hydro and wind power sectors. It employs 500 people across its 21 global offices. Its portfolio includes developing renewable energy projects with a toral capacity of 10 GW in 10 countries, mainly Europe. It provides services for approximately 1.4 GW of installed capacity.

TotalEnergies' Renewable Energy Push:

This acquisition aligns with TotalEnergies' strategy of expanding its renewable energy portfolio, contrasting with other European energy companies that have slowed their pace. With a current installed renewable energy capacity of 24 GW, the company aims to increase this by 11 GW in 2025, solidifying its position as a key player in the global renewable energy market.

The International Energy Agency projects that renewable energies will account for more than 35% of the global energy mix by 2040. This acquisition positions TotalEnergies to play a significant role in the growing renewable energy market.
