TotalEnergies has signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with Turkish state-owned energy company BOTAS to supply 1.1 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually for ten years, starting in 2027. This deal aligns with TotalEnergies' strategy to expand its long-term LNG sales and reinforces its presence in Türkiye’s growing LNG market.

Natural gas is seen as a vital transitional energy source, helping to stabilize the energy grid by compensating for the intermittent nature of renewable energy. It also plays a key role in reducing carbon emissions, particularly by replacing coal in electricity generation.

Gregory Joffroy, Senior Vice President of LNG at TotalEnergies, expressed satisfaction with the new partnership, emphasizing that it strengthens the company's long-term relationship with BOTAS. Joffroy highlighted the benefits of the agreement, noting that it not only secures long-term sales but also mitigates exposure to the volatility of spot market gas prices.

This deal marks a significant step for TotalEnergies as it continues to position itself as a major player in the global energy transition while supporting Türkiye's energy needs. By leveraging LNG as a cleaner alternative to coal, the company aims to contribute to emissions reductions and enhance energy security in the region.

TotalEnergies is the world’s third-largest LNG player, with a global portfolio of 44 million tons annually in 2023, backed by its investments in liquefaction plants across various regions. The company holds a strong, integrated position across the entire LNG value chain, covering production, transportation, over 20 million tons per year of regasification capacity in Europe, trading, and LNG bunkering.

With a goal to increase natural gas to nearly 50% of its sales mix by 2030, TotalEnergies aims to reduce carbon emissions, eliminate methane emissions in the gas value chain, and collaborate with local partners to facilitate the transition from coal to natural gas.

TotalEnergies is a leading global integrated energy company engaged in the production and marketing of a diverse range of energy sources, including oil, biofuels, natural gas, green gases, renewables, and electricity. With over 100,000 dedicated employees, the company strives to deliver energy that is reliable, affordable, and increasingly sustainable to as many people as possible. TotalEnergies operates in around 120 countries and prioritizes sustainability at the heart of its strategy, ensuring its projects and operations actively support a more responsible energy future. The company is committed to driving the global energy transition by focusing on cleaner, low-carbon energy solutions, reducing environmental impact, and promoting innovation across the energy landscape. TotalEnergies' ambition is to play a pivotal role in the evolving energy sector while balancing the growing demand for energy with the need for greater sustainability and environmental responsibility.
