TotalEnergies has announced the acquisition of Tecoil, a Finnish company renowned for its expertise in producing Re-Refined Base Oils (RRBOs) with the most efficient used oil regeneration process currently available in the market.

Located in Hamina, eastern Finland, Tecoil operates a production facility capable of producing 50,000 tons of RRBOs annually. The company has established a robust circular economy network across Europe for collecting used lubricants, which are then supplied to its plant.

Through Tecoil's optimized re-refining process, used oils undergo treatment that elevates them to the quality levels comparable to the finest virgin base oils. These high-quality base oils are integral in producing lubricants that not only meet but exceed new consumer expectations for circularity and sustainability. Importantly, they substantially reduce the carbon footprint associated with lubricants while maintaining the performance standards endorsed by numerous car manufacturers.

Pierre Duhot, Senior Vice-President of Lubricants and Specialties at TotalEnergies, highlighted the strategic significance of integrating Tecoil into their operations. He expressed enthusiasm about leveraging Tecoil's expertise in base oil processing to accelerate the adoption of renewable and bio-based oils (RRBOs) in their premium lubricant offerings. This move aims to meet the increasing market demand for high-performance and environmentally friendly products. Duhot emphasized TotalEnergies' commitment to enhancing their lubricant production capabilities through this collaboration.

Juha Kokko, CEO of Tecoil, expressed satisfaction and optimism about joining TotalEnergies, viewing it as a pivotal opportunity to strengthen and expand Tecoil's activities. He emphasized their shared commitment to advancing innovation and meeting the evolving needs of customers in the lubricant sector. Kokko highlighted the synergy between Tecoil's expertise and TotalEnergies' established leadership in lubricant production and distribution, foreseeing significant advancements and achievements in their collaborative efforts.
