Topsoe, a prominent player in the field of sustainable technologies, has entered into an agreement with World Energy GH2 to supply dynamic ammonia loop technology for a groundbreaking renewable hydrogen plant situated in Canada.

This pioneering plant, named Project Nujio’qonik, is poised to become one of the world's first-to-market renewable hydrogen initiatives. Its location is earmarked for the Bay St. George of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Utilizing Topsoe's cutting-edge technology, the plant will have the capacity to generate an impressive daily output of up to 1,650 metric tonnes of renewable ammonia at the designated site. World Energy GH2 is optimistic that hydrogen production will commence by the year 2025.

GH2 initially unveiled the ambitious Project Nujio’qonik in the previous year (2022), outlining a planned investment of $12 billion. The ultimate objective is to supply a substantial amount of 250,000 metric tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually to global markets.

John Risley, Chairman of World Energy GH2, expressed his contentment with the collaboration, stating, "Through meticulous analysis, we are delighted to have chosen Topsoe's well-established technology for our project. Project Nujio’qonik is poised to play a pivotal role in establishing Newfoundland and Labrador as a prominent global force in the battle against climate change. It will also act as a catalyst for the development of other renewable hydrogen ventures, not only across Canada but worldwide."

Henrik Rasmussen, Managing Director of the Americas at Topsoe, echoed this sentiment, underscoring the significance of the agreement. He stated, "This partnership underscores the exceptional quality and depth of Topsoe's expertise in ammonia production. It stands as a significant testament to the immense confidence placed in our world-leading technology."

In a separate development earlier this year (2023), Topsoe unveiled a collaborative effort with Mintal Hydrogen Energy Technology to establish a green ammonia Power-to-X (PtX) plant in China. This plant, set to commence production in 2025, is also anticipated to benefit from Topsoe's technology. The plant's initial phase is projected to boast a substantial capacity of 1,800 tonnes of green ammonia per day, contributing to a yearly output of 390,000 tonnes.

With these ventures, Topsoe continues to solidify its position as an innovative and forward-thinking player in the realm of renewable energy technologies, demonstrating a commitment to advancing sustainable practices and combating climate change.
