Time Technoplast Limited has announced the expansion of its polyethylene (PE) pipe business with the introduction of pipes specifically designed for the gas distribution sector. This strategic move aims to cater to both public and private sector demand, reinforcing the company’s commitment to promoting PE pipes for infrastructure applications. With benefits such as lightweight construction, extended lifespan, and high durability, PE pipes have gained widespread acceptance in various industries.
Currently, Time Technoplast supplies PE pipes through EPC contractors for applications in water supply, irrigation, sewage, effluent treatment, desalination plants, power plants, and cable ducting. The company operates across its manufacturing facilities in India’s western, southern, and eastern regions. Its customer base for composite products includes more than 20 gas distribution companies, both public and private, which have already expressed interest in the new gas pipe product. These companies, along with other potential customers, will be targeted for marketing and sales.
The addition of gas distribution pipes is expected to optimize the company’s production capacity with minimal modifications to existing manufacturing equipment, processes, and material composition. This expansion aligns with Time Technoplast’s goal of achieving 30% growth in the PE pipe segment. The company plans to leverage its in-house research and development (R&D) team to support product innovation and ensure compliance with industry standards.
The project will be backed by an estimated capital expenditure (CAPEX) of up to Rs. 8 crore, which falls within the company’s broader CAPEX allocation for regular maintenance, automation, re-engineering, new product development, and both greenfield and brownfield expansion projects in India and international markets. The company anticipates a maximum development period of four months, including obtaining necessary approvals from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The benefits of this expansion are expected to materialize starting from Q2 of the financial year 2025-26.
This initiative also aligns with India’s ongoing infrastructure development programs, particularly in the gas distribution sector. Government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), smart city projects, and the transition from traditional metal pipes to PE pipes for underground gas distribution networks are driving demand for advanced piping solutions.
The global polyethylene (PE) pipes market is projected to witness significant growth in the coming years, reaching an estimated value of $13.7 billion by 2029. Key factors contributing to this growth include the expansion of gas distribution networks, increasing investments in renewable energy, rapid urbanization, infrastructure development, and the rising demand for efficient water and wastewater management solutions. By expanding its PE pipe offerings, Time Technoplast is positioning itself to capitalize on these market trends while strengthening its foothold in the gas distribution sector.
