National Industrialization Company (Tasnee) has announced a significant milestone in its strategic expansion plans, receiving the Ministry of Energy's approval for the allocation of essential feedstock for its planned world-scale petrochemical complex in Jubail Industrial City. This approval, granted on February 26, paves way for the establishment of a cutting-edge facility designed to produce approximately 3.3 million metric tons of petrochemical products annually.
The Ministry of Energy's decision to allocate quantities of ethane, propane, and butane underscores the Saudi government's commitment to bolstering the nation's petrochemical sector and driving forward the goals of Vision 2030. These feedstocks are critical for the complex's thermal cracking unit, which will be the heart of the facility, producing high-capacity ethylene.
Tasnee's ambitious project will introduce a diverse portfolio of petrochemical products, including high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). Notably, the complex will also venture into the production of specialized products that are new to the region, such as next-generation phthalate-free plasticizers, advanced grades of polyether polyols, and EO/PO copolymers. These innovative products are expected to cater to a wide range of applications and significantly enhance the added value of Saudi Arabia's petrochemical industry.
The company has pledged to employ leading technologies and adhere to the highest quality standards, ensuring cost-competitive production methods and the utilization of the most advanced technologies available. This commitment to innovation and efficiency reflects Tasnee's dedication to maintaining its competitive edge in the global petrochemical market.
According to preliminary studies, the project is slated for start-up in the fourth quarter of 2030. This timeline allows Tasnee to meticulously plan and execute the complex development, including the initiation of necessary engineering designs. The company has assured stakeholders that any fundamental developments related to the project will be promptly announced, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Tasnee has expressed its deep gratitude to the Ministry of Energy for its ongoing support of the petrochemical industry in the Kingdom. The Ministry's proactive approach in empowering local companies is seen as a crucial driver for achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and enhance the Kingdom's industrial capabilities.
The establishment of this industrial complex in Jubail Industrial City is poised to create significant economic opportunities, including job creation and the development of downstream industries. Furthermore, the production of specialized petrochemical products will strengthen Saudi Arabia's position as a leading global player in the sector.
