Syngenta, a global frontrunner in agricultural innovation, has launched its most extensive NK Seeds corn portfolio in more than ten years, featuring eight new hybrids for the 2025 growing season. With a strong focus on research and development (R&D), Syngenta invests $1.4 billion annually in R&D, supported by a global team of 6,500 employees. This expanded portfolio highlights the company’s dedication to helping farmers boost yields through advanced, high-performing seeds designed with unique traits and genetics tailored to various farming environments.

Dan Wright, Head of Syngenta Seeds Canada, emphasizes the importance of innovation in driving grower success. “Our commitment to R&D is essential in delivering solutions that address the distinct regional needs of Canadian farmers,” says Wright. The launch, which also marks 140 years of continuous seed sales, was celebrated at a Field Day event on August 21, 2024, at the Arva Research and Development Innovation Centre. The event gathered 130 growers and dealers who got an exclusive preview of the new corn portfolio and heard directly from Syngenta’s corn development, breeding, and trait teams about the years of research behind this milestone.

NK Seeds has a rich history dating back to 1884 when the Northrup-King Seed Company became the first private seed company in North America to establish a formal R&D program and the pioneer in commercializing a biotech trait in corn. Mark Kerry, Head of Sales for Syngenta Seeds in Canada, expressed pride in continuing this legacy. “We’re excited to deliver even more reliable, high-performing corn genetics to our customers with enhanced traits like insect and drought resistance, along with improved standability and disease tolerance,” Kerry notes.

Matt Rundle, Corn Product Placement Specialist for Syngenta Seeds, adds that the new portfolio reflects Syngenta’s ongoing innovation efforts. “This launch offers farmers more choices and advanced technology, backed by our long history and commitment to continuous research. It’s just the start of what Syngenta Seeds plans to bring to the market in the coming years,” says Rundle.

Overall, the expanded NK Seeds corn portfolio represents Syngenta’s sustained dedication to empowering growers with cutting-edge agricultural solutions that adapt to evolving challenges and maximize farm productivity.
