Sungrow Hydrogen, a frontrunner in the global green energy sector, has secured a pivotal supply agreement for Oman's massive 320MW green ammonia project. The deal, signed on January 18th with ACME Group, will see Sungrow Hydrogen deliver advanced water electrolysis equipment, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion in the Middle East. The project, integral to ACME’s green energy strategy, is expected to commence operations in 2026 and is set to strengthen Oman’s growing role in the global green hydrogen market.
As part of the agreement, Sungrow Hydrogen will provide multiple sets of its high capacity 1000Nm³/h ALK (alkaline) electrolysers, which are essential for the production of green hydrogen. These electrolysers will power the project’s hydrogen production facility, providing a flexible and scalable solution for generating clean, renewable hydrogen at scale. The contract stipulates that all deliveries will be completed within 2025, with the first stage of ammonia production targeting 300 tonnes per day.
The green ammonia project stands as one of the most ambitious initiatives in the region and plays a crucial role in advancing Oman's green energy ambitions. By using renewable electricity to produce hydrogen, which is then used to synthesize ammonia, the project will help eliminate the carbon footprint typically associated with ammonia production. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to be a key player in supplying green ammonia to industries globally, with wide applications in agriculture, energy storage, and as a clean fuel source.
Sungrow Hydrogen’s involvement in this high-profile project underlines the company’s growing competitiveness in the global green hydrogen market. In 2024, the company marked a series of technological advancements, including the certification of its electrolyser products by CE and TÜV. Furthermore, Sungrow's 20MW Water Electrolysis Hydrogen Production Empirical Platform, the largest of its kind in the world, received accreditation from China’s National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS), solidifying the company’s leadership in cutting-edge hydrogen technology.
The company is also making strides in scaling up production capabilities. Its newly operational second plant at the Sungrow Hydrogen Intelligent Manufacturing Centre, which boasts China’s first automated assembly line for ALK electrolyzers, is expected to increase production efficiency by 60%. With these advancements, Sungrow Hydrogen’s annual production capacity now exceeds 3GW, positioning it as a major supplier of electrolyzers for large-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects worldwide.
Looking ahead, Sungrow Hydrogen is committed to expanding its footprint in the green hydrogen sector. The company continues to collaborate with key global partners on integrated hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol projects, aiming to support the world’s transition to a sustainable, hydrogen-powered future. As the Oman project progresses, it stands as a testament to Sungrow Hydrogen's technological expertise and commitment to powering the future of green energy on a global scale.
