SÜDPACK has introduced PET floatable lidding films designed to pair with mono-APET trays, offering a fully recyclable packaging solution. These innovative, low-density, sealable top webs can be easily separated from the APET bottom webs during the recycling process, resulting in clean, high-quality recycled materials that can be reintroduced into different material flows.
This development provides a sustainable alternative for packaging sliced meat, ham, and cheese in peelable, thermoformed, and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). Despite their recyclability, the PET floatable lidding films deliver the same level of performance and processing reliability as conventional lidding films, making them a practical and eco-friendly choice for the market.
The product family also includes a peelable version and a top web featuring Multipeel, which allows for easy opening and secure reclosing. This added convenience is highly valued by consumers, as it ensures that the packaged food remains protected and fresh for a longer period, extending its shelf life. Multipeel PET floatable not only enhances user experience but also contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of products in two significant ways: by providing recyclable packaging and by maintaining food freshness for an extended time, thereby minimizing food waste.
Peel PET floatable is an advanced lidding film that excels in packaging safety and performance. With a thickness of just 45 μm, this ultra-thin film provides a reliable seal against PET trays, even when contaminated with fats. It peels off effortlessly without tearing or rolling up, ensuring clean removal. The film's high oxygen barrier offers superior product protection, while its anti-fog properties maintain a clear appearance, enhancing the product’s presentation at the point of sale. This visual clarity is a key factor in consumer perception of quality.
Moreover, Peel PET floatable integrates seamlessly into existing production processes without necessitating expensive machinery adjustments. It can be processed on standard thermoforming packaging machines and tray sealers, thanks to its excellent sealing capabilities and broad processing window. This ensures both versatility and consistent packaging reliability, making it a practical choice for high-quality, efficient packaging solutions.
SÜDPACK’s new Peel and Multipeel PET floatable solutions, when paired with mono-APET trays, enable customers to declare their packaging concept as recyclable, supporting resource conservation and sustainability. Valeska Haux, Vice President of Strategic Marketing & Sustainability at SÜDPACK, highlights that the excellent separability and minimal weight of the top web contribute to a recyclability rate exceeding 80%. This significant achievement reflects SÜDPACK’s commitment to eco-friendly practices, with initial customer applications already underway, demonstrating the practical benefits of these innovative, sustainable packaging solutions.
