South Australia Set to Host $425 Million Biomass Hydrogen Plant Project

Greenhill Energy has recently announced a bold and ambitious plan to invest $425 million in the creation of Australia's leading integrated waste-to-hydrogen processing facility. This facility, which will be located on a 20-hectare site in Tailem Bend alongside the picturesque Murray River in South Australia, is set to become a landmark development in the country's energy sector.

The project, aptly named the Riverbend Energy Hub, aims to redefine waste management practices by converting various forms of waste, including biomass, landfill waste, and methane emissions, into low-cost, clean hydrogen. But the facility's goals extend beyond energy production. It also plans to produce high-value industrial products such as synthetic fuels and up to 100,000 tonnes of urea fertilizers annually.

As part of the project's initial stage, a proposed combined cycle gas turbine generator is set to use syngas to generate an impressive 100 megawatts (MW) of electricity. The first phase of the Riverbend Energy Hub will also incorporate a power plant capable of supplying reliable power to the wholesale electricity market.
