Siemens and HiiROC have joined forces to accelerate the adoption of clean hydrogen production through thermal plasma electrolysis (TPE). This innovative technology, developed by HiiROC, offers a promising solution to the challenges of hydrogen storage and transportation.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies will collaborate to significantly reduce the costs associated with hydrogen production. HiiROC's TPE process breaks down gaseous hydrocarbons into hydrogen and solid carbon without generating CO2, requiring only a fifth of the electricity needed for water electrolysis. This process is recognized under the UK's Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard.

Siemens will contribute its expertise in control technology, factory automation, and product development to advance HiiROC's technology and support its international expansion.

Andy Lane, Senior Commercial Manager at Siemens, emphasized the game-changing potential of HiiROC's solution: "Powered by Siemens technology, HiiROC's compact, low-carbon, low-cost solution to producing hydrogen at the point of use is a game-changer for the energy transition. The costs to transport and store hydrogen remain prohibitively expensive for businesses to make the switch at scale. The UK is also many years away from having an expansive hydrogen pipeline network for industry to tap into, despite positive early progress in its development."

Lane further added, "We're proud to work alongside like-minded innovators like HiiROC to tackle the energy transition – one of society's biggest challenges."

Mike Plant, head of Engineering at HiiROC, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Siemens: "The partnership with Siemens has allowed us to access a wide product of solutions for the hazardous and demanding environment in which we operate. Not only that but the support and industry-leading knowledge Siemens has been able to provide on topics such as cybersecurity and software development is crucial to the product development and future upscale and production of our technology."

This collaboration between Siemens and HiiROC marks a significant step towards a more sustainable future. By leveraging their combined expertise and innovative technologies, the two companies aim to accelerate the adoption of clean hydrogen as a viable and affordable energy source.

HiiROC is an innovative technology company focused on transforming the way hydrogen is produced, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and efficiency. The company has developed a pioneering solution for hydrogen production through a process called High-Temperature Electrolysis (HTE). This technology enables the production of hydrogen from natural gas or renewable energy sources in a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly manner compared to traditional methods.
