Malic Acid has been reportedly in short supply in the domestic price. Since the quality of imported Malic Acid is perceived inferior to the quality of locally produced, traders and suppliers have cut their import volumes over the month. Also, Thirumalai Chemicals has lowered its production owing to demand slow down as Citric Acid is increasingly being used as an alternative to Malic Acid for additive application in food industry. These factors have led Malic Acid price to jump by about 8 per cent over the last quarter.
