Saipem, an eminent energy corporation based in Italy, has recently announced via a LinkedIn post that it has consummated the comprehensive 'South Gas Compression Plant Pipelines' project. This significant venture was designed with the objective of prolonging the operational life of a multitude of gas wells located in the Haradh and Hawiyah fields within Saudi Arabia.
The project's scope was vast and multifaceted, involving the procurement and construction of a sophisticated pipeline system of varied diameters, collectively extending over an impressive 700 kilometers. This intricate system comprised flowlines, trunklines, and transmission lines. Furthermore, it incorporated ancillary facilities that were imperative for the conveyance of gas from various storage locations and distribution points within the facilities. These additional facilities included liquid station separations, remote headers, gas gathering manifolds, and off-plot tie-in facilities.
Despite the considerable complexity and scale of the project, Saipem demonstrated remarkable resilience and proficiency, successfully overcoming numerous challenges related to logistics, safety, security, and project management. The company's adept handling of these obstacles is a testament to their skill and flexibility in managing and executing large-scale projects.
The successful culmination of this pipeline project aligns seamlessly with Aramco’s strategic blueprint to augment its gas production by over half from the levels recorded in 2021, by 2030, subject to domestic demand. The amplification of natural gas production and supply is a focal point in Saudi Aramco's strategic goals and energy transition plans. The objectives encapsulated within these plans include diversifying the Kingdom's energy mix, providing feedstock for the petrochemical industry, and diminishing reliance on crude oil for domestic needs such as power generation, opting instead for cleaner energy sources.
Saipem's contribution to the project was instrumental in assisting Aramco in its progression towards these strategic aims. "Throughout this project, we have supported Aramco with reducing the use of oil and increasing the use of natural gas as the primary fuel for several local industries," Saipem declared.
The project, known colloquially as the "Haradh and Hawiyah Increment," is situated in the arid eastern desert region of Saudi Arabia. The development covers an area comparable in size to a small country and has significantly amplified the Kingdom's daily gas production by approximately 1360 million ft3/d.
In conclusion, the successful completion of the 'South Gas Compression Plant Pipelines' project by Saipem signifies a notable milestone in Saudi Arabia's energy sector. This achievement not only extends the operational lifespan of numerous gas wells but also bolsters the Kingdom's wider energy diversification and transition endeavors. Saipem's effective execution of this large-scale project highlights its proficiency in handling complex energy projects and reaffirms its commitment to aiding its clients in achieving their strategic objectives.
