Proman, headquartered in Wollerau, Switzerland, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mitsubishi Corporation, based in Tokyo, to jointly explore the feasibility of constructing a world-scale ultra low-carbon ammonia facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana. This ambitious project envisions the production of approximately 1.2 million tons of clean ammonia annually, achieved through the integration of cutting-edge carbon capture and sequestration technology.

The proposed ultra low-carbon ammonia facility is planned to be situated on Proman's existing site in Lake Charles. This location is strategically adjacent to Proman's natural gas to methanol plant, which is currently in the development phase.

The official signing of the MoU between Proman and Mitsubishi Corporation took place at the Third International Conference on Fuel Ammonia (CFA), an event organized by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The ammonia generated at this future facility is slated to be primarily exported to Japan, where it will serve as a clean fuel. Japan's intention is to utilize this clean ammonia to curtail emissions emanating from coal-fired power plants, in alignment with its national strategy aimed at boosting domestic ammonia consumption to facilitate the realization of its decarbonization objectives.

This collaborative endeavor between Proman and Mitsubishi Corporation represents a significant step forward in the pursuit of environmentally sustainable and innovative ammonia production. The core aim of this project is to establish a world-scale ultra low-carbon ammonia facility, signaling a crucial commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner energy alternatives.

The envisioned facility is destined for Lake Charles, Louisiana, where Proman has an existing presence.
