Petrofac has secured a major contract from ADNOC Gas, further solidifying its longstanding relationship with the UAE energy giant. This contract, valued at over $330 million, involves the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) of a state-of-the-art gas compressor plant at the Habshan Complex in Abu Dhabi. The project aims to enhance the complex’s capabilities, enabling ADNOC Gas to increase output and supply vital pre-conditioned gas to the Ruwais LNG project, a key infrastructure in the UAE’s energy portfolio.

This marks Petrofac’s third EPC award at the expansive Habshan Complex, underscoring the company’s critical role in ADNOC’s gas processing operations. The scope of work includes the installation of two gas compressor trains and the development of essential utilities and power systems, integral to the overall performance and efficiency of the facility. The project, slated for completion in 2028, is expected to be a cornerstone in ADNOC’s strategy to strengthen its energy production and processing capacity.

Elie Lahoud, Chief Operating Officer for Petrofac’s Engineering & Construction division, praised the company’s continued growth within the UAE energy sector, citing the team’s strong delivery track record and commitment to excellence. Lahoud emphasized the long-term strategic importance of the project and reaffirmed Petrofac’s focus on creating value beyond the construction site—especially by fostering local employment and promoting regional supply chain development.

With a presence in the UAE since 1991, Petrofac has built a formidable infrastructure of operational centers in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. This extensive experience has positioned the company as a leading player in the region’s energy sector, particularly in gas processing, where it has supported ADNOC in its efforts to enhance gas field output and optimize processing technologies. Petrofac’s deep-rooted understanding of local needs has enabled the company to build strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring the success of complex projects such as the Habshan Gas Compressor Plant.

In 2023, Petrofac secured additional high-profile projects at the Habshan Complex, including the Estidama Habshan Gas Compressor Plant and the Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) project, with a combined value exceeding $1.3 billion. These projects have driven Petrofac’s continued expansion in the UAE, where the company is helping ADNOC realize its vision of becoming a global leader in sustainable energy production.

As part of its commitment to the UAE’s economic and social development, Petrofac has recruited more than 120 UAE nationals over the past year, contributing to the Emiratisation agenda and ensuring local talent is integrated into high-value energy projects. With the Habshan Complex project, Petrofac continues to demonstrate its unwavering dedication to local workforce development, technological innovation, and sustainable energy solutions for the UAE and beyond.
