PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, a subsidiary of the state-owned PT Pertamina, has made a significant advancement in sustainability by obtaining the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) for its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This certification is issued under both the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and the Renewable Energy Directive - European Union (RED-EU). With this achievement, Pertamina Patra Niaga becomes the first operator in Southeast Asia to offer ISCC-certified SAF, marking a crucial step in reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector.

Maya Kusmaya, Director of Central Marketing and Commerce at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, highlighted that the ISCC certification underscores the company's commitment to promoting more environmentally friendly fuel options. "This is a historic milestone for the regional energy industry, opening new possibilities for airlines in Indonesia and beyond to adopt fuels that significantly lower their carbon footprint," Maya stated on August 22, 2024.

The certification was officially awarded by Ryanza Prasetya, CEO of PT Qualitas Sertifikat Indonesia, to Maya Kusmaya on August 19, 2024. The presentation occurred during the “Paving the Way to Net Zero: HVO & SAF” event, themed “Driving Change Through Renewable Fuels,” hosted by Pertamina and attended by Salyadi Saputra, Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development at PT Pertamina. This milestone enables customers to benefit from the carbon emission reductions associated with SAF produced by Pertamina.

Along with SAF, Pertamina has also been awarded ISCC certification for its Used Cooking Oil (UCO) and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) products. This allows customers to claim the carbon emission reductions achieved through the use of these fuels. The Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT) in Ngurah Rai, Bali, and the Soekarno-Hatta Aviation Fuel Terminal & Hydrant Installation (SHAFTHI) in Jakarta are the first sites to obtain ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU certifications. The strategic location of AFT Ngurah Rai is poised to support the Bali International Air Show 2024, potentially increasing the use of Pertamina’s SAF in the international aviation market.

Maya Kusmaya emphasized Pertamina Patra Niaga's commitment to innovation and sustainability, stating, "We are dedicated to leading the way in creating a greener and more sustainable future by partnering with airlines." Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, added that the company is actively working on various decarbonization initiatives to meet its Net Zero Emission target by 2060 or sooner. "Our ongoing efforts to expand the use of environmentally friendly fuels reflect our dedication to reducing carbon emissions," Fadjar noted.
