Perstorp AB, headquartered in Malmö, Sweden, has officially begun ester production at its facility in Amsterdam. The site has successfully completed initial test batches of various ester products, marking the first step in resuming full operations. These test batches are currently undergoing customer evaluation for quality assurance. Once approved, the facility is set to ramp up to full-scale production.
The restart of the Amsterdam site signifies a major milestone for Perstorp, representing a critical move in its strategic expansion within the synthetic esters sector. This development also plays a vital role in reinforcing the company's foothold in the growing Engineered Fluids market. The acquisition of the Amsterdam plant was a foundational step in this strategy, and significant preparations have taken place since then to ready the facility for ester manufacturing.
According to Joost Overeijnder, Plant Manager of the Amsterdam site, "After a few months of preparation, the Amsterdam Esters plant restarted with production in mid-March. The first batch was completed and approved on Thursday, March 20." This successful restart highlights the effectiveness of the company’s planning and execution efforts.
Prior to its acquisition by Perstorp, the Amsterdam facility had already built a solid reputation for producing esters used in a variety of applications, including automotive and refrigeration lubricants, plasticizers, and even select cosmetic formulations. The plant is designed as a batch-processing facility, which provides it with the flexibility to cater to a wide range of product specifications and customer needs.
The commencement of production is a significant achievement for the team involved. It not only marks the site’s operational revival under Perstorp’s ownership but also aligns with the company’s larger growth ambitions. “The team was very pleased to be able to restart again and is keen to continue as demand grows,” Joost added. “The next step is to produce additional ester types that will further support the growth of our Engineered Fluids segment. Results from these upcoming batches are expected in the coming week.”
With the initial production phase underway and customer feedback pending, Perstorp is well-positioned to expand its presence in the synthetic esters market. The company’s investment and commitment to the Amsterdam site demonstrate its confidence in the potential of this facility to drive innovation and meet evolving customer demands in specialized chemical solutions.
The Perstorp Group is a global leader in multiple segments of the specialty chemicals industry, serving a broad spectrum of applications across various industries. Its products are key components in numerous everyday items used at home, in the workplace, and during leisure activities.
