OQ Chemicals, a global leader in chemical solutions, has introduced OxReduce L7-NPG, a new bio-circular synthetic lubricant base oil that serves as a sustainable alternative to its fossil-based counterpart, Oxlube L7-NPG. Manufactured using a mass balance approach, OxReduce L7-NPG adheres to the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS standard. This innovative lubricant is made from sustainably sourced, palm oil-free feedstocks, and all of its components are fully traceable. From the raw bio-naphtha used in production to the final product, transparency is maintained throughout the entire manufacturing process.

OxReduce L7-NPG stands out due to its high renewable carbon content, with up to 84% of the product derived from renewable sources. This makes it an ideal choice for manufacturers aiming to reduce the product carbon footprint (PCF) of their lubricant formulations while maintaining high performance. The product offers a blend of environmentally friendly benefits without compromising on quality or efficacy. Its key features include a low pour point, low viscosity, and high flash point, making it a versatile and reliable option for various applications.

As a non-toxic ester base oil, OxReduce L7-NPG is particularly beneficial in industries such as automotive, metalworking, and energy-efficient cooling systems. It is also suitable for use in original equipment manufacturing (OEM) applications, where there is a strong focus on reducing CO2 emissions and meeting sustainability goals. Additionally, OxReduce L7-NPG complies with the Vessel General Permit (VGP), which ensures that it has a minimal ecological impact when used in marine environments.

Dr. Claudia Fischer, Director of Global Business Development at OQ Chemicals, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting customers in their transition to sustainable solutions. By offering products like OxReduce L7-NPG, OQ Chemicals helps customers reduce their PCF while ensuring high product quality. The biobalanced product also meets increasing regulatory demands and growing consumer expectations for environmentally friendly products.

OxReduce L7-NPG expands OQ Chemicals' product portfolio, complementing the existing OxLube L7-NPG, which is already listed under the Lubricant Substance Classification (LuSC) list. The biobalanced variant is expected to be considered for inclusion on this list as well, potentially offering customers a pathway to achieve EU Ecolabel certification for environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs). This certification is an important step for manufacturers looking to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability while adhering to stringent environmental standards.

OQ Chemicals (formerly known as Oxea) is a global producer of Oxo Intermediates and Oxo Performance Chemicals, including alcohols, polyols, carboxylic acids, specialty esters, and amines. These chemicals are essential in the production of high-quality coatings, lubricants, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, flavors and fragrances, printing inks, and plastics. With a workforce of over 1,400 employees worldwide, OQ Chemicals distributes its products in more than 60 countries. The company is a subsidiary of OQ, an integrated energy group based in Oman.
