State-owned National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) has officially announced its foray into the production of nano liquid urea, signaling a pivotal step toward embracing innovative and sustainable agricultural practices. In a recent regulatory filing, NFL disclosed its plans to launch an advanced and highly effective nano urea variant developed with cutting-edge nano technology at its Nangal plant. The facility is set to manufacture an impressive 1.5 lakh bottles of 500 ml each day, addressing the increasing demand for efficient and environmentally friendly fertilisers in the agricultural sector.

NFL is conducting extensive field research to assess the effectiveness and market acceptability of various nano urea variants currently available. This rigorous study ensures the company's new product will meet the high standards required to enhance productivity while supporting sustainable farming practices. Nano urea stands out for its exceptional nutrient uptake efficiency, enabling crops to absorb more nitrogen over a prolonged period. This controlled release reduces nitrogen loss to the environment, significantly curtailing greenhouse gas emissions, a critical factor in combating climate change.

In addition to its environmental benefits, nano urea promises economic advantages for farmers. Its enhanced efficiency means that smaller quantities are required compared to conventional urea, potentially lowering input costs while maintaining or improving crop yields. These attributes position nano urea as a game-changer in the drive for more sustainable and profitable agricultural practices in India.

NFL’s move into nano urea production aligns with its broader strategic vision of diversifying its portfolio to meet the evolving needs of the agriculture sector. As the largest urea producer among India's Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), NFL has built a robust presence in fertilizers, seeds, and crop protection products. The company has consistently expanded its offerings, introducing alternative fertilisers tailored to the specific requirements of Indian soil. This diversification not only enhances the company’s product range but also supports India’s goals of sustainable agriculture and food security.

The Nangal plant, where the new nano urea variant will be produced, represents a significant milestone in NFL’s journey toward innovation. By incorporating advanced nano technology, NFL is contributing to the modernisation of Indian agriculture, fostering productivity, and promoting environmentally conscious practices.

This strategic entry into nano liquid urea production underscores NFL's commitment to leveraging innovation for sustainable growth. As the agriculture sector faces increasing pressure to balance productivity with environmental stewardship, NFL's latest venture reflects its proactive approach to addressing these challenges. By pioneering such advancements, NFL continues to play a crucial role in shaping the future of agriculture in India while strengthening its position as a leader in the fertiliser industry.
