Neste and Air Canada have signed a new agreement for the supply of 60,000 metric tons (77.6 million liters) of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ (SAF). This agreement marks a significant milestone in their ongoing partnership and underscores Air Canada’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Neste will begin delivering the SAF, which will be blended with conventional jet fuel, to Vancouver's marine terminal starting in December 2024, with additional shipments planned throughout 2025. The Vancouver terminal is directly connected to the fuel facilities at Vancouver International Airport, ensuring the SAF blend can be used at the airport.

This collaboration aligns with Air Canada's sustainability goals, which include a target to have SAF comprise 1% of the airline's estimated jet fuel consumption by 2025. In addition to the Vancouver agreement, Neste has already supplied SAF for Air Canada at airports such as San Francisco International and Amsterdam Schiphol in 2023.

Michael Rousseau, President and CEO of Air Canada, emphasized the importance of SAF in the airline's strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He noted that the airline's efforts to lower its environmental impact rely heavily on sustainable fuels, making this purchase a crucial step toward reaching their SAF procurement target for 2025.

Carl Nyberg, Executive Vice President at Neste, expressed pride in expanding their partnership with Air Canada, noting that this will be the first time their SAF is supplied to Canada. He highlighted the importance of policy support in accelerating SAF usage and reiterated Neste's commitment to helping the Canadian aviation industry reduce its emissions. Nyberg also looked forward to further collaboration with Air Canada, emphasizing the role of sustainable aviation fuel in achieving both companies' environmental objectives.

This agreement reinforces the growing role of SAF in aviation's sustainability efforts, with Neste continuing to lead in providing solutions that contribute to reducing the industry's carbon footprint.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a renewable fuel offering a more eco-friendly alternative to traditional fossil-based jet fuel. Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%* over its life cycle compared to conventional jet fuel. Made from 100% renewable waste and residue materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste, Neste's SAF is sustainably sourced. It is certified for commercial use and can be blended with conventional jet fuel at ratios of up to 50%, working seamlessly with current aircraft engines and fueling infrastructure.

Neste uses science and cutting-edge technology to transform waste and other resources into renewable fuels and circular raw materials. The company develops solutions that tackle climate change and accelerate the shift towards a circular economy. As the global leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel production, and a trailblazer in creating renewable and circular feedstock for polymers and chemicals, Neste is committed to helping its customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tons annually by 2030.
