MISC Berhad, a leading global energy-related maritime services provider, and Gentari Sdn Bhd, a clean energy solutions provider, have announced a strategic partnership to develop innovative shipping and floating solutions for clean ammonia on November 26. The collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of clean ammonia as a sustainable energy carrier and reduce carbon emissions in the maritime industry.

By combining MISC’s expertise in shipping and floating solutions with Gentari’s focus on clean hydrogen and ammonia production, the partnership aims to create end-to-end solutions that streamline the clean ammonia value chain. The companies are targeting to complete the development of these solutions by 2027.

Through a comprehensive joint study, the partnership aims to advance energy transition and develop comprehensive integrated solutions.

The companies will strengthen the infrastructure needed for ammonia transportation, enabling the broader energy sector to meet demand for alternative energy sources. They will offer end-to-end logistics, and infrastructure solutions for clean ammonia, a vital component of the future energy mix, particularly for sustainable power generation and industrial applications.

“This partnership is not only about creating solutions for today but also about building the foundation for tomorrow’s low-carbon maritime ecosystem,” said Zahid Osman, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of MISC Berhad. “The solutions we are developing with Gentari Hydrogen will be game-changing for the maritime industry, offering integrated approaches that enhance efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Together, we will drive innovation in the way clean ammonia is transported globally and enhance Malaysia’s standing as a forward-looking maritime and energy hub.”

Michèle Azalbert, Gentari’s Chief Hydrogen Officer, added, “This collaboration marks an important step in laying the foundation for a robust clean ammonia value chain, subsequently enabling quicker decarbonisation in hard-to-abate sectors. By developing innovative ammonia shipping solutions, we are addressing critical infrastructure needs and paving the way for ammonia to become a key energy carrier in the global transition towards a sustainable future.”

By joining forces, MISC and Gentari are taking a significant step towards supporting the global energy transition and promoting the use of clean ammonia as a sustainable fuel source. The partnership highlights both companies’ commitment to driving innovation, reducing carbon emissions, and shaping a low-carbon future.

MISC Group is a global maritime leader. It has been operating for over 56 years. With a diverse fleet and skilled workforce, they offer solutions across the maritime energy value chain.
