McDermott, in partnership with Saipem and China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation, has secured a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the Rovuma LNG Phase 1 Project in Mozambique. This initiative is a joint venture involving ExxonMobil Development Africa B.V., Eni S.p.A., and CNODC Dutch Cooperatief U.A. The Rovuma LNG Phase 1 Project is poised to significantly impact Mozambique's economy by facilitating the liquefaction and export of natural gas sourced from the Offshore Area 4 fields near the Afungi Peninsula.

Rob Shaul, Senior Vice President of McDermott's Low Carbon Solutions business, emphasized the transformative potential of liquefied natural gas (LNG), stating, "LNG helps shape an entirely new era of energy solutions, and McDermott plays a significant role in this global shift with over 60 years of LNG experience." He highlighted McDermott's established presence in Mozambique and the company’s commitment to leveraging its expertise to further the nation’s industrial, social, and economic development.

The FEED contract encompasses the modular design of a greenfield LNG production facility at Afungi, which includes all associated gas pre-treatment units, utilities, and offsite systems to support LNG production. The facility is expected to have a production capacity of 18 million tons per annum (MTPA). Additionally, the scope of work will cover the engineering, procurement, and construction proposal for the project.

All project work will be conducted from McDermott’s office in London, marking another significant step in advancing Mozambique's energy landscape and promoting sustainable economic growth in the region.
