Lummus Technology, a worldwide leader in process technologies and energy solutions focused on value, has revealed the commercial launch of CDDMESM, a novel renewable dimethyl ether (DME) technology featuring catalytic distillation (CD) enhancements.

"Lummus holds a prominent market position and broad commercial expertise in ethers production, ranging from niche specialty applications to large-scale production facilities handling complex feedstocks," stated Ron Venner, Chief Business Officer of Clean Fuels at Lummus Technology. "Our wealth of experience forms the cornerstone of this renewable DME technology, providing clients with a clean, flexible, and economically feasible solution to address current and future demands for sustainable fuels and chemicals."

The CDDME technology has the capability to convert various methanol types into renewable DME, which can be further blended to create liquefied petroleum gas or utilized as a carrier for hydrogen. This technology streamlines processes, achieves significant conversion rates, and minimizes utility and operational expenses, leading to reduced capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX).

Lummus stands as the foremost licensor in the industry for ether technology employing catalytic distillation. Its catalytic distillation (CD) portfolio encompasses over 25 technologies, catalysts, and proprietary equipment, with over 200 licensed units spanning the refining and petrochemical sectors.

Lummus Technology leads globally in crafting technological solutions that enable modern living while promoting a sustainable, low-carbon future. Lummus Technology offers licenses for process technologies in clean fuels, renewables, petrochemicals, polymers, gas processing, and provides comprehensive lifecycle services, catalysts, proprietary equipment, and digitalization to clients across the globe.

Originating in 1907, Lummus Technology emerged through the foresight, strategic vision, and entrepreneurial drive of Walter E. Lummus, the company's eponymous founder. Initially headquartered in Boston, the company established its manufacturing base in Everett, Massachusetts. Its earliest endeavors centered on developing process technology for producing transportation fuels from bio-feeds like molasses. In its nascent stages, Lummus manufactured various equipment including pot stills, condensers, scrubbing columns, caustic soda dissolvers, heat exchangers, and distillation columns.

In 2020, Lummus embarked on a significant new phase in its 110-plus year journey when Rhône Capital and The Chatterjee Group acquired the business, transforming it into an independent entity. Today, Lummus distinguishes itself as the foremost global leader in the development and deployment of process technologies. It stands as the leading licenser of technologies across various sectors including clean fuels, renewables, petrochemicals, polymers, gas processing, and lifecycle services. Additionally, it provides clients worldwide with catalysts, proprietary equipment, and digitalization solutions. Lummus has consistently ranked among the world's most pioneering technology licensing firms.
