In December of the previous year, Long Son Petrochemicals (LSP) achieved a momentous milestone with the full operational launch of its production complex situated in southeastern Vietnam. This USD5.4 billion project, located in Ba Ria Vung Tao province, stands out as the inaugural integrated petrochemical complex in the country, ushering in a new era for Vietnam's petrochemical industry.

The comprehensive complex further encompasses a High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) production plant with a substantial capacity of 500 thousand tons per year. In tandem, there is a Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) facility, also with a capacity of 500 thousand tons per year. Additionally, the complex houses a Polypropylene (PP) plant with a noteworthy production capacity of 400 thousand tons per year.

The successful full-scale launch of the production complex not only signifies a major achievement for Long Son Petrochemicals but also holds significance for Vietnam as a whole. The integrated nature of the petrochemical complex positions it as a key player in enhancing the domestic manufacturing capabilities and contributing to the overall economic landscape of the country.

The timeline of operational milestones, from the initiation of polyolefin plants in June 2023 to the mechanical completion of olefin plants in October 2023, reflects the meticulous planning and execution undertaken by Long Son Petrochemicals. The addition of the cracking unit, strategically operating on naphtha and propane, adds a crucial element to the complex's capabilities, allowing for the substantial production of ethylene, propylene, and butadiene.

The HDPE production plant, LDPE facility, and PP plant within the complex each play vital roles in catering to diverse market needs. High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is widely used in packaging, pipes, and various plastic products, while Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) finds applications in film production, packaging, and other industries. Polypropylene (PP) is a versatile polymer with applications in textiles, packaging, and automotive components, among others.

The strategic location of the production complex in Ba Ria Vung Tao province, coupled with its status as Vietnam's inaugural integrated petrochemical facility, positions it as a cornerstone in the nation's industrial landscape. The infusion of advanced petrochemical capabilities not only addresses domestic market needs but also positions Vietnam as a competitive player in the global petrochemical arena.

As Long Son Petrochemicals marks the successful completion of its ambitious project, the industry awaits the ripple effects of this landmark achievement. From meeting domestic demand to potentially exploring export opportunities, the integrated petrochemical complex holds the promise of contributing significantly to Vietnam's economic growth and industrial development.
