Linde announced that it has secured a long-term agreement to provide clean hydrogen for Dow's Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero Project. The company plans to invest more than $2 billion to develop, own, and operate a major integrated facility for clean hydrogen and atmospheric gases in Alberta, Canada. This new facility will utilize autothermal reforming along with Linde’s proprietary HISORP carbon capture technology to produce clean hydrogen and recover hydrogen from off-gases at Dow’s ethylene cracker.

In its initial phase, Linde will provide clean hydrogen, nitrogen, and additional services to support Dow’s groundbreaking net-zero emissions ethylene cracker and derivatives facility. Additionally, Linde’s facility will provide clean hydrogen to existing and new industrial customers looking to decarbonize their operations. The complex is expected to capture and sequester over 2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Once completed in 2028, this facility will be the largest clean hydrogen production plant in Canada and one of the largest in the world. It will be Linde’s biggest single investment and its second major clean hydrogen project, following a recent project to supply clean hydrogen for a significant blue ammonia initiative in the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Sanjiv Lamba, Linde’s CEO, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “This landmark project supports our strategy of developing high-quality projects with secured off-take. Our technology and expertise are crucial for transitioning to a cleaner economy. We are proud to partner with Dow in its efforts to decarbonize its Fort Saskatchewan site and appreciate the support from the Province of Alberta and the Federal Government.”

Jim Fitterling, Chairman and CEO of Dow, noted, “Decarbonizing our assets while driving growth and shareholder returns is vital for Dow’s long-term success. Collaborating with partners like Linde is essential for achieving our goals, and we’re pleased to have Linde on board for this industry-leading project.”

As a leading industrial gases and engineering company, Linde is instrumental in the clean energy transition, leveraging its expertise and infrastructure to support customers in decarbonizing operations with advanced hydrogen technologies.
