Lhyfe (EURONEXT: LHYFE), a global leader in green and renewable hydrogen production, has partnered with KEYOU, a technology leader in hydrogen combustion engines, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing hydrogen mobility in Germany and Europe. The collaboration will focus on developing hydrogen-based solutions for heavy-duty vehicles, starting with the Baden-Württemberg region in Germany.
Lhyfe is currently constructing its largest green hydrogen production facility in Schwäbisch Gmünd, near Stuttgart, Germany. The plant, expected to be operational by the end of the year, will have an installed capacity of 10 MW and produce up to 4 tonnes of green hydrogen per day. To ensure a stable supply of green electricity for this site, Lhyfe has secured a 15-year corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EDP Renewables. This facility will be central to the hydrogen mobility project, providing the necessary fuel to support KEYOU’s hydrogen vehicles.
In addition to its production plant, Lhyfe recently announced a partnership with H2 MOBILITY Deutschland to supply green hydrogen to four filling stations across Germany over a five-year period starting in 2025. Two of these stations will be located in Mannheim and Heidelberg, both within Baden-Württemberg. Furthermore, Lhyfe's green hydrogen will power the "H2-Aspen" industrial park and a JET H2 (now called MINT) hydrogen filling station.
KEYOU is a pioneer in developing hydrogen combustion engines and conversion technologies. The company focuses on converting existing diesel trucks into hydrogen-powered vehicles, aligning with the EU’s zero-CO2 regulations for heavy-duty vehicles. KEYOU offers a "Hydrogen Mobility as a Service" model that includes vehicle conversion, service and maintenance packages, insurance, and fuel options.
The agreement between Lhyfe and KEYOU marks a significant step in promoting hydrogen mobility in Germany. The initial focus will be on the Schwäbisch Gmünd region, where Lhyfe’s production facility is located, enabling KEYOU to deploy up to 100 hydrogen-powered trucks between 2026 and 2030. The project is expected to ramp up by 20 trucks annually, requiring around 1,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year to meet demand. Other regions in Germany are expected to follow as the project expands.
The partnership aims to develop localized ecosystems that integrate renewable hydrogen production, distribution infrastructure, and heavy-duty hydrogen vehicle use. This comprehensive approach will help secure the availability and affordability of green hydrogen for powering KEYOU's trucks. Additionally, KEYOU plans to showcase its hydrogen vehicles through Lhyfe’s digital platform, Lhyfe Heroes, allowing interested users to connect and explore the possibilities of hydrogen mobility.
Pedro Bravo, Chief Sales Officer of KEYOU, emphasized that hydrogen mobility will only be truly impactful if powered by green hydrogen, expressing confidence in the collaboration with Lhyfe. Luc Graré, Head of Central & Eastern Europe at Lhyfe, highlighted the agreement's role in creating a comprehensive hydrogen mobility solution in Germany, particularly in Baden-Württemberg, contributing to the energy transition in transport.
