Kemira has announced a significant multi-million Euro investment to expand its production capacity for strength chemical agents used in paper, board, and tissue manufacturing at its Wellgrow site in Thailand. The expansion project is set to begin in 2026, with the new production lines expected to be operational by August of the same year. As the leading producer and supplier of pulp, paper, and board chemicals in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, Kemira aims to meet the rising demand in Southeast Asia and India with this strategic investment.

Strength agents play a crucial role in enhancing the mechanical properties of paper and board products, improving durability and performance. Kemira’s advanced strength technology not only enhances product quality but also offers significant sustainability benefits. The new technology enables reduced water consumption, improved material efficiency, and superior strength properties, helping customers achieve higher productivity while minimizing environmental impact. By replacing older technologies with more sustainable alternatives, Kemira supports the industry's shift toward environmentally responsible manufacturing processes.

“To further strengthen our leadership position in the APAC region, we are expanding our production capacity in Thailand to support future growth,” stated Harri Eronen, Executive Vice President of Packaging & Hygiene Solutions at Kemira. “The Asian pulp and paper market is among the fastest-growing globally, and this investment will enhance our ability to deliver innovative and sustainable chemical technologies to better serve our customers.”

With the expansion, the total estimated annual production capacity at the Wellgrow site—strategically located near Bangkok Airport and the Port of Bangkok—will reach approximately 100,000 tons. This increased capacity will enable Kemira to better serve regional customers with a reliable and efficient supply chain. The Wellgrow facility’s operations will be further strengthened by Kemira’s global and regional expert teams, leveraging extensive research and innovation capabilities to drive advancements in chemical solutions for the paper and board industry.

By investing in expanded production capacity in Thailand, Kemira underscores its commitment to meeting the growing demand for sustainable and high-performance chemical solutions in the APAC region. The initiative aligns with the company’s broader strategy of innovation and environmental responsibility, ensuring that customers benefit from cutting-edge technologies that enhance efficiency and reduce ecological impact.

As the APAC pulp and paper industry continues to expand, Kemira’s investment in Thailand positions the company for long-term growth, reinforcing its status as a trusted partner for sustainable chemical solutions. The Wellgrow site expansion is a key milestone in Kemira’s efforts to drive progress in the paper and board sector while delivering high-quality, environmentally friendly products to customers across the region.
