JERA Co., Inc., ENEOS Power Corporation, and Kyushu Electric Power Company, through their joint venture Goi United Generation LLC, have been progressing with the replacement work at the Goi Thermal Power Station. They are pleased to announce that Unit 1 of the Goi Thermal Power Station has officially commenced commercial operation as of August 1, 2024.

This new unit employs a cutting-edge LNG-fired gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) system, which is designed to offer advanced power generation capabilities. With a substantial generating capacity of 780 MW, it is expected to play a key role in ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply. The innovative design of this thermal power plant not only enhances efficiency but also addresses environmental concerns by significantly reducing CO2 emissions.

The Goi Thermal Power Station Unit 1 represents a significant step forward in the modernization of power infrastructure, showcasing world-leading efficiency in power generation. This advancement aligns with the commitment of JERA and its partners to advance state-of-the-art technologies and foster environmental sustainability.

The three companies remain dedicated to continuing the implementation of cutting-edge replacement projects at the Goi Thermal Power Station, aiming to further enhance the station's performance and environmental footprint. Their ongoing efforts reflect a strong commitment to both operational excellence and sustainable energy solutions.

The Goi Thermal Power Station, located at 1 Goi Kaigan in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, is a major energy facility with a total generation capacity of 2,340 MW across three units, each with 780 MW. The plant uses LNG as its fuel and operates using a gas turbine combined cycle method, with a gas turbine combustion temperature reaching 1,650°C. The station’s thermal efficiency is approximately 64% based on the lower heating value. Unit 1 began operations in August 2024, while Unit 2 is slated to start in November 2024, and Unit 3 is expected to be operational by March 2025.

Goi United Generation LLC, established on March 29, 2019, is located at 1-2 Goi Kaigan, Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture. The company is a joint venture with JERA Power Investment LLC holding a 90% stake, ENEOS Power Corporation owning 5%, and Kyuden Energy Investment GK holding 1%. The CEO of Goi United Generation LLC is Masataka Sato from JERA Co., Inc. The company manages the development and operation of the Goi Thermal Power Station, a key asset in their energy portfolio.

JERA's mission is to deliver innovative solutions to address global energy challenges. The company envisions expanding its clean energy platform, which includes renewables and low greenhouse gas thermal power, to drive sustainable development across Asia and globally.
