IOCL Turns to Lummus for Cumene Technology in Strategic Move

Lummus Technology, renowned worldwide for its process technologies and energy solutions, has disclosed that IndianOil Corp. Ltd. (IOCL) has chosen the Lummus/Versalis cumene technology for a 440 KTA unit situated in Paradip, India. This addition of the new cumene unit is a pivotal component of IndianOil's extensive expansion project for petrochemicals and polymers at its Paradip facility.
"Our cumene technology is poised to provide IndianOil with reduced energy expenses, enhanced reliability, operational efficiency, and remarkable product output. These advantages will enable them to optimize their plant economics and bolster their expansion endeavors," remarked Romain Lemoine, Chief Business Officer for Polymers and Petrochemicals at Lummus Technology. "We eagerly anticipate further collaboration with IndianOil, leveraging our longstanding partnership to achieve yet another successful project."
Lummus' responsibilities encompass the technology licensing for cumene, basic design engineering, proprietary catalyst, site services, advisory services, and training.
IndianOil has acquired licenses for several Lummus technologies, such as naphtha cracker, INDMAX FCC, and polypropylene technologies, for its facilities spread throughout India.
Since 2007, Lummus and Versalis have collaborated to license cumene technologies. This process involves liquid-phase alkylation utilizing a proprietary zeolite catalyst, boasting exceptional cumene yield, ultra-high purity cumene product, and prolonged catalyst longevity.
