INOX Air Products achieved a milestone. The country’s largest producer of gases commissioned its first green hydrogen plant. The gases include industrial, medical, and electronic types.
The plant is located in Rajasthan. It is at Asahi India Glass Limited’s (AIS) new facility. This facility produces float glass. It is in Soniyana, Chittorgarh. This project represents a significant step. It promotes sustainable industrial practices in India.
INOX partnered with AIS. AIS is a leading glass manufacturer in India. INOX will supply green hydrogen under a 20-year agreement. This collaboration will transform glass production. Green hydrogen will be integrated into the process. Solar energy and electrolysis will produce this hydrogen.
The new plant has a specific design. It can produce up to 190 tons of green hydrogen each year. In the initial phase, 95 tons will go to the AIS facility. AIS will use it in its float glass manufacturing. This marks India’s first use of green hydrogen in glass production.
INOX Air Products released a statement. “We harness solar power. We generate green hydrogen. We pioneer a sustainable approach to glass manufacturing.” The statement continued. “This initiative is a major step. It reduces the carbon footprint of industrial processes. It will drive the adoption of green hydrogen. This will be in India’s manufacturing sector.”
A solar power plant powers the project. This plant supplies renewable energy. The energy is for the production of green hydrogen. This signifies a strong commitment to sustainability. AIS invested in the solar power infrastructure. This infrastructure is at its Soniyana facility. This investment is part of the arrangement.
Siddharth Jain is the Managing Director of INOX Air Products. He emphasized the environmental impact. “Our green hydrogen supply will reduce CO2 emissions. This reduction at AIS’ facility will be about 1,250 tons annually. This initiative is a crucial step. It supports India’s shift towards a low-carbon economy.”
Rupinder Shelly is the Chief Operating Officer at AIS. He works with Architectural Glass. He highlighted the company’s growing commitment. This commitment is to sustainability. “With the launch of INOXAP’s green hydrogen plant, we strengthen our dedication. This dedication is to sustainable operations. Our goal is clear. We want to meet 94% of the power needs. This is for our Soniyana facility. We will use green energy sources. We will continue to invest in sustainable technologies. These technologies support de-carbonization. They also support circularity.”
This project showcases a significant advancement for green hydrogen adoption in Indian industry. It demonstrates a viable pathway for reducing carbon emissions in energy-intensive sectors. The collaboration between INOX Air Products and AIS sets a precedent for future sustainable industrial partnerships in the country. The use of solar power for hydrogen production further underscores the project's environmental benefits. This initiative aligns with India's broader goals for a cleaner and more sustainable industrial future. The long-term supply agreement ensures a stable and reliable source of green hydrogen for AIS. This will support their sustainability efforts for years to come. The project serves as a model for other industries looking to integrate green hydrogen into their manufacturing processes. It highlights the potential of green hydrogen to play a key role in India's energy transition.
