Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) has chosen Univation's UNIPOL PE Process Technology for a major new production line at its Paradip Petrochemical Complex in Paradip, India. This new facility is designed to have a production capacity of 650,000 tons per annum of polyethylene (PE). The line will produce both linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), allowing IOCL to cater to a wide range of applications crucial for the Indian PE market.
To address demand in both unimodal and bimodal PE segments, IOCL has opted for a range of Univation’s technologies. These include the conventional UCAT J Unimodal HDPE/LLDPE Technology, the advanced PRODIGY Bimodal HDPE Technology, and the ACCLAIM Unimodal HDPE Technology. This selection will enable IOCL to meet stringent performance standards for critical applications such as flexible and rigid packaging, high-pressure pipes, and various durable goods.
With the growing demand for metallocene polyethylene (PE) in India, IOCL plans to use Univation’s XCAT™ Metallocene Catalysts to produce advanced metallocene PE grades. These grades will target high-end market segments, including robust shipping packaging, high-performance films for food preservation, and metallocene films for sustainable agriculture.
To ensure top-tier operational performance, IOCL will also implement Univation's PREMIER APC+ 3.0 Advanced Process Control Platform. This platform is designed to enhance process control, optimize raw material yields, and ensure consistent product quality across the entire PE resin grade portfolio.
Nathan Wiker, President of Univation Technologies, highlighted the importance of collaborative relationships in the success of such projects. "IOCL has honored us by selecting Univation Technologies as its polyethylene technology licensor for this new production line. We are committed to supporting IOCL in the successful design, commissioning, and start-up of this world-scale PE manufacturing facility," Wiker said. He expressed confidence that the UNIPOL™ PE Process’s versatility and product flexibility will meet both current and future market demands in India, ensuring IOCL can address emerging customer needs effectively.
