Hygenco Green Energies and Ameropa have entered into a Term Sheet to explore the potential supply of green ammonia from Hygenco's upcoming Green Ammonia plant in India. This initiative seeks to bolster green ammonia exports from India, thereby aiding the global shift towards renewable energy and sustainable agricultural practices.
Hygenco plans to produce green ammonia at its forthcoming project situated at Gopalpur port in Odisha. The initial phase aims to produce 600 tonnes per day (TPD), achieving Commissioning on Demand (CoD) by 2027. Phase 2a will subsequently double production to 1,200 tonnes per day (MTPD) by early 2028. Ultimately, the project is slated to reach its full production capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030.
At present, Hygenco stands as the sole Indian company operating a commercial green hydrogen plant. Furthermore, the company is actively advancing several green hydrogen plant projects across India and intends to allocate $2.5 billion towards green hydrogen and green ammonia initiatives over the next three years.
"Guided by the timeless philosophy of global unity, we are excited to announce a transformative partnership with Ameropa to assist in their decarbonization objectives. At Hygenco, we harness cutting-edge technology and pioneering expertise in Green Hydrogen to produce the most sustainable 'Greenest of Green' Ammonia, ensuring it is cost-effective, dependable, and secure."
Mr. Amit Bansal, co-founder & CEO of Hygenco Green Energies, remarked, "This term sheet underscores India's unique potential to take a global leadership role in this sector, leveraging its plentiful renewable energy resources and robust infrastructure."
Efforts worldwide are intensifying to reduce carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with green hydrogen and ammonia emerging as promising alternatives to fossil fuels across various sectors such as fertilizers and energy. India's ambitious goal to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 positions the nation as a major exporter of green ammonia.
"Ameropa recognizes the rapid advancement of green ammonia projects in Odisha state, India. The Swiss trader has committed to supporting Hygenco's well-advanced plans while aiming to build a global portfolio of low-carbon ammonia," stated Beat Ruprecht, Head of Ammonia at Ameropa.
Hygenco and Ameropa are preparing to export green ammonia to European and Asian markets, prioritizing the establishment of a dependable supply chain. Their goal is to secure a substantial portion of the expanding global low-carbon ammonia markets.
For Ameropa, green ammonia will play a crucial role in promoting low-impact fertilizer production and advancing sustainable agricultural practices worldwide. This initiative is also expected to notably reduce the Swiss company's indirect emissions.
