Hydrom, the national orchestrator for Oman's green hydrogen strategy, and Thyssenkrupp Nucera, a leading provider of alkaline water electrolysis technology, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of the burgeoning green hydrogen sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

The MoU, signed during Hydrom's inaugural gH2 Investor Day, aims to explore opportunities for localizing the assembly and service hubs for water electrolysers in Oman. This strategic partnership will leverage Thyssenkrupp Nucera's expertise in electrolysis technology to support Hydrom's ambitious plans to establish Oman as a global leader in green hydrogen production.

The MoU will focus on exploring the potential for localizing the assembly and service hubs for water electrolyzers in Oman, creating local jobs and fostering technological development within the country. Both companies will work together to identify and develop opportunities within the Omani green hydrogen market, leveraging their respective strengths and expertise.

The collaboration will contribute to the development of a robust and sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem in Oman, encompassing production, transportation, storage, and end-use applications.

"Hydrom is orchestrating all green hydrogen activities, including a master plan for the sector in the Sultanate of Oman," said Dr. Werner Ponikwar, CEO at Thyssenkrupp Nucera. "As thyssenkrupp nucera, we are committed to bringing deep expertise in electrolysis technology to support this ambition. With decades of experience and innovative solutions in electrolysis business, we are well-equipped to strengthen our presence in the Middle East by laying the foundation for a successful green hydrogen sector in Oman in partnership with Hydrom."

Eng. Abdulaziz Said Al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom, emphasized the significance of this collaboration and said "Green hydrogen has the potential to be a central element in Oman's clean economy, supporting a more sustainable and decarbonized future. Through the development of a competitive and sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem, we aim to position the Sultanate as a leading global green hydrogen hub. Collaborating with thyssenkrupp nucera is a further significant step on our way to achieve our ambition."

Oman's Strategic Position in the Global Green Hydrogen Market

Oman's strategic location, positioned between major green hydrogen demand centers in Europe and Asia, coupled with its exceptional infrastructure and logistics capabilities, makes it a prime candidate for a leading role in the global green hydrogen market. Aligned with Oman's Vision 2040, which prioritizes economic diversification and sustainability, the Sultanate aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, with green hydrogen playing a crucial role in this transition.

This strategic partnership between Hydrom and thyssenkrupp nucera signifies a significant step forward in Oman's journey towards a green hydrogen-powered future. By combining Hydrom's vision for a sustainable energy future with thyssenkrupp nucera's technological expertise, the two entities are poised to drive innovation and accelerate the deployment of green hydrogen solutions in Oman and beyond.
