Hy2gen Canada Inc., the Canadian arm of the international green hydrogen producer Hy2gen, has been chosen, pending agreement with Hydro-Québec, to secure a portion of electricity for a green hydrogen and green ammonia production facility in Baie-Comeau. The electricity, sourced from the Courant project by Hydro-Québec, will fuel the production of hydrogen and green ammonia. This marks a significant step forward for the Courant project, initiating the Front-End-Engineering phase and bringing the final investment decision (FID) closer to realization.

Should the final investment decision prove favorable, Hy2gen intends to commence construction of the green ammonia plant in the latter part of 2026, aiming for the first green ammonia production by 2029, contingent upon Hydro-Québec's connection schedule. This represents another significant stride for Hy2gen. Since 2023, the company has been actively producing green hydrogen at its facility in Werlte, Germany.

The consistent electricity supply from a hydroelectric-based power grid to the Courant production plant will facilitate uninterrupted operation of the electrolysis process, wherein water is separated into oxygen and hydrogen. Combined with on-site nitrogen production, this green hydrogen will be converted into green ammonia. The strategic location of Courant boasts short transportation distances to off-takers, where the green ammonia will play a pivotal role in decarbonizing chemical production, fostering the shift towards a sustainable and emission-neutral industry.

Cyril Dufau-Sansot, CEO of Hy2gen, expresses immense satisfaction with this milestone: "We are deeply gratified by the Quebec government's allocation of energy to our Courant project in Baie-Comeau. This acknowledgment serves as a testament to our vision and dedication to green hydrogen production in Quebec. It marks a significant leap forward for Hy2gen Canada and the renewable energy sector, empowering us to play a substantial role in decarbonizing the economy and realizing Quebec's ambitious sustainability objectives."

Pietro Di Zanno, Director of Hy2gen Canada Inc., remarks: "We extend our gratitude to the Quebec government, Hydro-Québec, and the community of Baie-Comeau for their support in bringing this groundbreaking project to fruition. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with all stakeholders to propel the project forward and realize its benefits for Quebec."

Hy2gen, via its worldwide subsidiaries, strives to emerge as the premier and most dependable provider of renewable hydrogen—a potent catalyst for green advancement. The advancement of the Courant project signifies another stride toward widespread, economically viable production of renewable energy solutions like hydrogen and green ammonia, positioning the company as a market leader in this arena. Securing the power supply contract for Courant underscores Hy2gen's credibility with governing bodies and solidifies its position as a formidable contender in the global renewable energy market.
